About Thames Valley University
Thames Valley University (TVU), initially founded in 1860 as Lady Byron School, was later named Polytechnic of West London with the merging of Thames Valley College of Higher Education, Queen Charlotte's College of Health Care Studies and the London College of Music in 1990. In 1992, it achieved the University status and hence forth adopted the current name. In 2004, it merged with the Reading College and School of Arts and Design, making it the second highest student populated UK University.
The campuses are based in Brentford, Ealing, Reading and Slough. The 2010 league tables of British universities positioned TVU as the 69th out of 117 British Universities and a 2008 study by Times Higher Education magazine revealed that within 6 months, 95% of TVU fresh graduates found employment. The TVU offers courses catering to students from 14 years upwards until post graduates and some professional courses. It comprises of four faculties; Arts, Professional Studies, Human and Health Sciences and Technology. TVU is deemed to be the No. 1 UK University for Nursing and Midwifery.
The Ealing and the Reading campuses provide accommodation with en-suite facilities along with catering. It also provides house accommodations for family with meals provided. However, it is said that student accommodation is expensive comparatively. Transport between campuses is readily available.
The Thames Valley University Student Union has a membership of 47,000 students and organizes many fun activities. Among its facilities are a bar, a gym, sports activities and student run clubs and societies. It is also allied to National Union of Students.
