About Queen Mary University of London

With its origins dating back to 1785, Queen Mary in London is a constituent college of the University of London. However, this University was known as Queen Mary and Westfield College until 2000 and is still on its charter. Its origin is the mergers throughout its existence, of four older colleges; Queen Mary College, St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College, Westfield College and the London Hospital Medical College and in 1915, by joining with the University of London; Queen Mary, University of London has now become one of its largest colleges.

Queen Mary is a highly recognized university for its diversity in the courses and research focused study areas offered, comprising of 21 academic departments and institutes.  Degrees in the areas of English, Linguistics, Law, Medicine, Epidemiology and public health, Cancer Studies etc. are top 10 rankers of the National Academic league tables. Queen Mary has earned the 11th (The Guardian) and the 13th (The Times Higher) places nationally out of 127 universities. Most significantly, as of 2009, this particular university has produced 6 Nobel Laureates!

Queen Mary has four campuses within London; Whitechapel, Mile End, Lincoln's Inn Fields and Charterhouse Square. The students are provided with accommodation in its own halls and also elsewhere as preferred. Among its facilities is the Drama Studio named after the Nobel Laureate Harold Pinter!

The Student Union is responsible for uniting the various clubs and societies and organizing various extra curricular and fun activities to make university life a remarkable one. One such famous event is the Merger Cup.
