Goldsmiths is a college of the University of London It was founded in 1891 as The Goldsmiths' Technical and Recreational Institute by the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths and later the institute was acquired by the University of London and re-established as Goldsmiths College in 1904.

Goldsmiths is mostly known for its courses and research relating to culture and creativity and is reputed for providing visual artists, in particular those known as Young British Artists . Furthermore Goldsmiths is also well-known for cultural studies whilst its sociology and anthropology departments are at the forefront of these disciplines in London.   

Goldsmiths provides a multitude of facilities ranging from catering facilities, a chaplaincy and a medical centre to a nursery and a gym for student use. In addition to these the Goldsmiths' Student Union runs two bars and the university also owns 7 halls of residence which offers accommodation to students. Furthermore all Goldsmith students can also make use of the facilities of the University of London Union.

The Goldsmith Students Union is responsible for organising the sports team and societies. The union runs 18 sports clubs, 11 of which compete in either University of London Union or British Universities and Colleges Sport ( BUCS) leagues. In addition the union runs 35 societies ranging from political societies and identity-oriented societies to interest based societies and more.
