About Design Museum

The Design Museum is claimed to be the first contemporary themed museum and has a spectacular location by the River Thames. Founded in 1989, this two floored museum covers items of industrial, architecture, graphic and fashion designs.

Although small, the layout of the building is quite catchy with one exhibition area out in the water front. The ground floor is equipped with office, cafe and other facilities. The first and second floors are used for the various exhibitions. The Design Museum Space which is the mezzanine floor between the First and Second floors is usually used for talks or hired out for external events. Currently, the museum does not have a permanent showcase of items due to collection review, but concentrates on temporary exhibitions which attract about 200,000 visitors annually.

The Design Museum is open from 10am-5.45pm daily, but is closed on 25th-26th December. The tickets are from £8.50 to free and an online booking service is provided. The buildings are also disabled accessible.
