About The William Morris Gallery
The William Morris Gallery is situated at the Lloyd Park of Walthamstow and is the only public gallery dedicated to William Morris's work, England's one of the best designers! His work is housed in his family home; The Water House, a Grade II listed Georgian home. Unlike elsewhere, this gives a more personalized aura of the designer William Morris, thus making it unique. It was opened by Prime Minister Clement Attlee in 1950.
This gallery takes you through the legacy of this renowned artist. It consists of embroidery, printed and woven fabric, wallpapers, rugs, furniture, carpets, stained glasses, painted tiles and so forth. They were designed by him and his students like Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Edward Burne-Jones, Philip Webb etc. Some of the vital exhibits are the medieval-styled helmet and sword designed for the Pre-Raphaelite murals of the Oxford Union, the original Trellis design, early tapestries etc.
