About London Dungeon
London Dungeon is an interactive entertainment experience based on gruesome historical events and medieval torture methods. A collaboration of actors, special effects and exhilarating rides create an unforgettably entertaining experience. It is highly appealing to the young as it is a successful combination of history and just plain fun.
The Dungeon has many ghastly attractions. The first in its sequence is the Labyrinth of the Lost: “One way in…but is there a way out?†It is a maze of mirrors based on the crypt of All Hallows Church. An actor playing the groundskeeper tells visitors about the crypt before they are lead into the maze. Visitors are left wondering around the maze seeing reflections of themselves everywhere letting them feel really lost, until they are eventually lead out.
The great plague section is base on the great plague of London. London is depicted as being infested by the bubonic plague. The setting reeks of foul smells and dead bodies. Screams of agony and panic can be heard. Actors play people suffering terribly from the plague and death collectors walk through the streets gathering dead bodies.
Meet Jack the Ripper face to face in a lonely alley. The Jack the Ripper exhibit is based on the serial killing of five prostitutes. The display highlights the gruesome aspects of the murders such as the way in which the intestines were pulled out. Visitors are told about the last two murders and the possible suspects of the case. Elements of surprise are used to instill a feeling of fear and danger in the visitors.
The Great fire of London recreates a scene from the fire of London. The scene begins with a narration about the fire. By the end of the narration, the fire is within reach of the visitors who have to run through the burning streets of London to escape it. The buildings are ablaze and mothers hold their babies out of windows in an attempt to save them while cries for help and screams ring in the air.
The experiences at London Dungeon are designed to be both entertaining and educational. Drawing from the natural human attraction to the gruesome, the actors use grim comedy to act out scenes making it especially appealing to young people. Experience London's darkest moments in the London Dungeon.
