About London Zoo

The London Zoo is the oldest zoo in the world. It was opened in 1828 for scientific study.  It was opened to the public in 1847. It is home to 755 species and 15,104 animals. The London Zoo has many attractive displays and interesting animals making it an ideal day out for adults and children alike.

Its main attractions include Butterfly Paradise featuring species from around the world . The display includes a pupae holding room where visitors can see how a pupae gradually develops into a butterfly. Visitors can also learn interesting facts about butterflies their life cycle and conservation

Meet the penguins at the Penguin pool which houses two species of penguin. The enclosure has been specially designed with the best of animal care in mind, focusing on the animals environmental needs. Feeding time or the Peckish Penguins feed  is one of the most popular daily attractions at the London Zoo, where you will find all the penguins lined up and waiting for their food. Another exciting new attraction is Gorrilla Kindom. The new home of the London Zoo's three gorillas.

The newest exhibit at the London Zoo is the Giants of the Galapagos. The exhibits main attraction is a 70 year old Galapagos tortoise which has been mating with his new female companions constantly since his arrival in the enclosure. The enclosure is fitted out luxuriously with a waterholes, heated mud wallows and climate control.

Blackburn Pavilion is a restored Victorian building recreating a rain forest environment to house 50 different species of tropical birds. Walk right in and meet free flying toucans, kookaburras and humming birds among other exotic birds.

Animal Adventure is the children's zoo dedicated to educate children by presenting them with new and interesting experiences. Tree Top Zone allows children to climb into tree top lookout towers and share the world of animals that make their home in the tree tops. At the Root Zone children to explore the underground world and meet the animals who make their homes there. At The Splash Zone children can play in the mini stream and at the Touch Zone children can pet and groom the zoos goats, sheep, llama and kune-kune pigs.
