A leading cricket club in the 18th century era, Richmond Cricket Club was located in Richmond, Surrey. The club's team has participated in numerous major cricket matches. The club has its home ground at Richmond Green. The cricket club was first established as a major cricket team back in June 1736 when two Richmond players faced a London twosome in a single wicket contest. But some history sources state that cricket was played in Richmond as early as 1666. Richmond went on to play inter-parish matches until the end on the 18th century but become defunct somewhere around the 19th century.
The Richmond Cricket Club that is existence today was founded in 1862 and the club features in the Shepherd Neame Middlesex County Cricket League. Richmond is now one of London's most successful and leading amateur cricket clubs and has its home ground based in the Old Deer Park at Richmond. Richmond is now a rapidly progressing and exciting club that has the largest junior division in Middlesex with almost 400 youngsters. The club also hosts Middelsex T20 fixtures and stages five Saturday league teams.
Richmond Cricket Club celebrated 150 years of the gentleman's game and cricket buffs and purists visiting London will find this club perfect to enjoy a game of cricket.
